Prof. Dr. Carlos Delgado Kloos, from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and Director of the UNESCO Chair “Scalable Digital Education for All,” was the keynote speaker at the DGWF 2024 Annual Meeting, held from September 11 to 12. During the event, Prof. Delgado Kloos led the session titled “Microcredentials: A New Challenge for Higher Education” on September 12 from 9:30 to 10:30, chaired by Dr. Ulrich Wacker from Universität Konstanz.
In his address, Prof. Delgado Kloos explored the growing impact of microcredentials on higher education and highlighted the work of ECOCredGT, a project with the main objective of «building capacity within Vocational Education and Training Institutions (VET) to foster a Digital Credentialing ecosystem that positively impacts employability.» ECOCredGT aims to create a validated, adaptable, and replicable model that enables effective Digital Transformation in regional institutions, helping to enhance employability through the recognition of specific competencies.
Prof. Delgado Kloos emphasized how microcredentials provide new opportunities for students and professionals to acquire targeted skills, adapting to the ever-evolving needs of the labor market. This tool allows for personalized educational pathways and promotes employability by validating concrete and specialized competencies.
The session, delivered in English with the option for questions in German, offered a platform to discuss strategies that universities can adopt to integrate microcredentials, thereby addressing the demands of the digital economy. This participation reaffirms ECOCredGT’s commitment to implementing digital credentials that foster relevant and accessible higher education for all.
