ECOCredGT Project’s Role in Digital Credentialing at Learning Impact Europe 2024

Prof. Carlos Delgado Kloos from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, leader of the ECOCredGT project and Director of the UNESCO Chair “Scalable Digital Education for All,” participated in the session titled “CertiDigital: Credentialing Service for Spanish Universities” on October 11, 2024, at the Learning Impact Europe 2024 event, an initiative of the 1EdTech Consortium (formerly IMS Global). During this session, Prof. Delgado Kloos also highlighted the work of the ECOCredGT project, an initiative aimed at transforming Vocational Education and Training Institutions (VET) across Latin America through a Digital Credentialing ecosystem.

The main objective of ECOCredGT is “to build capacity within VET institutions to foster a Digital Credentialing ecosystem that positively impacts employability.” This project was born out of the mission to provide a validated, adaptable, and replicable model that enables an effective Digital Transformation for institutions in the region. Digital credentials are set to become key elements for the recognition of competencies, with the potential to revitalize the job market and significantly promote employability.

ECOCredGT seeks to enable VET institutions to stay ahead of emerging demands by exploring diverse ecosystems that encourage inclusion and collaboration among all players in the labor and educational sectors. To this end, ECOCredGT will establish a replicable model of national digital credentialing centers, with a pilot center to be created in Guatemala as a reference for other initiatives throughout Latin America.

ECOCredGT thus works to build a future in which digital credentials play a crucial role in validating competencies and enhancing employability, contributing to a more dynamic, inclusive approach to education and vocational training that aligns with labor market needs.
